. traffic. >> thank you, jeff. >>> in the developing fiscal cliff negotiations with the clock sticking, top lawmakers are being called to the white house today. it is the first face to face meeting with the president since december 16th. sherry ly is live on capitol hill with the latest. good morning. >> reporter: well, we are here at the white house where that meeting is set to take place at 3:00 this afternoon. it comes with just a few days left to reach a deal or the nation will go over what has become known as the fiscal cliff. the result of going over that cliff would be tax increases and billions of dollars in automatic spending cuts. but as the hours tick down, the negotiations do not appear to be heating up. in his opening remarks on the floor of the senate yesterday, democratic majority leader harry reid accused republican house speaker john boehner of running a dictatorship in the house that is blocking a deal. the speaker has called the house back on sunday leaving just 24 hours for a deal. it is becoming clear though that the solution to the standoff is not going to come solely

that maybe we missed in the last hour. europe, europe is even moving on angst about the fiscal cliff or that stuff in japan. i don't know. very close. it's one or the other. let's check out asia. asia is actually up this morning. and then let's check out the oil board. oil is still strong, which makes me -- i don't know which market you look at to decide on whether we get something settled or not, but i think oil is pretty telling that it hasn't cracked at all. the ten-year has been under 1.8 recently. it's -- >> hold on. you think oil traders are smarter than bond traders and -- >> well, bond trade ers have be for years massed by fedex and central bank action. the stock market, these guys main line bernanke's stimulus and they -- you know -- >> the oil guys are -- >> no, i don't think they're the straightest. i just think that you would really -- if you thought the u.s. was going to go into a recession imminently, i don't think oil would save us. do you? >> no. >> let's check out the dollar. maybe the dollar -- that's a big -- you know, foreign currencies, you can learn a lot from.

the so-called fiscal cliff. but is the meeting just for show or could we really truly be close to a deal? doug is live in washington with more details, what are we in for? >> to be a fly on the wall in this meeting. these are the players that will be there today. the president with congressional leaders from both parties to see if they can get something done. it may be substantive, it may be window dressing. >> any time you announce a meeting publicly in washington, it's usually for political theater purposes. nothing good ever comes from it. there is one thing you have to do in politics. if the president meets with a foreign leader, you want to make sure you know what's going to happen at the meeting. when the president calls congressional leaders to the white house, it's all political theater or they've got a deal. my bet is all political theater. >> kelly: well, we will see. >> congress thee receipticcally could get something done. we saw the congress work yesterday. the house is going to be back here getting some work done apparently on sunday, again, very close to the deadline. the

-called fiscal cliff. so a very big moment in the nation's capital. and to walk us through what might happen we turn to jessica yellin, a chief white house correspondent. jessica, we said up front, it is a long shot, give us a best case scenario. >> reporter: the best case scenario would be that all the leaders walk out of this meeting and say they have a deal. the two senators say they can bring it to a vote, and none of their members will filibuster it. house speaker john boehner says he will bring it to the house floor for a vote before new year's eve and house minority leader nancy pelosi says she can wrangle all the democratic votes it needs to pass because you would expect a lot of house republicans to vote no, so you need almost all the house democrats to vote yes. if that sounds almost too good to be true, it probably is. >> and then they sing kumbaya. never, ever going to happen. and if it does -- >> reporter: they braid each other's hair. >> you got it. we're more likely to see that. so tell us about the role in this meeting of senator mitch mcconnell. why is he a key role to this? >>
